The New Character Great Race!

Announcing the New Character Race!

OK folks, let's have some fun. Those of you who wish to join in on this little adventure will need one thing: an empty character slot. Now I know some of you have an empty slot just sitting there with nothing to do since Anet nerfed key farming so let's make use of it.

Here's what we're going to do - we are going to have a race. But with some rules:

1. You will create a character that is a specific race and class to be announced on race day. Everyone will have the same race, the same class. This is to make it as fair as possible. Will you have to make an Asuran Ele? A Charr Mesmer? A Human Guardian? You'll find out on race day! But in order to participate, everyone MUST be the same!

2. No raiding any equipment, runes, buffs, or anything else from your storage, other characters, friends, etc. This will be done with only starter equipment as provided by Anet. And before anyone asks, no you may NOT have a guildie or friend run with you and give you speed boosts, buffs, etc. You must do this with only what Anet gives your starting character. (Although if you wish, you may team up with another new character that is participating in the contest and run together.)

3. Once everyone has made their character and met at the assigned starting point, I will announce the end waypoint. And you can bet it will take some skill to get there! You know that Charr Memer you just created? Run him or her to the waypoint for Shatterer! Yes, you will take a low level character and race it to a waypoint in a higher level area. (Although I promise not to send you to Orr - this time.)

4. How will you win? Simple, be the first one to the finishing way point! Can you dodge, hide, and stay alive long enough with starter equipment to beat everyone else there? If you die along the way, you do NOT have to go back to the start. You're welcome to way point to the nearest one you have open so I would advise you to grab every way point along the way that you can!

5. After the race starts, I will WP to the finish line and tag up. When you enter the final area, look for my tag. If you don't see it then request a party invite with me so you can transfer to the same instance.

6. What will you win? 500 gems to spend in the gem store. Or I'll convert it to gold for you if you'd rather have that. And yes, there very well may be prizes for second or third place depending on how many people we have participate.

Notes: I think this will be a fair, fun, way to have some fun. Since everyone will will have the same race and class, there won't be anyone with an advantage as far as skills unlocked or super duper armor and weapons. Since this will all be new characters, no one will have the map opened up. That's also why I won't announce the race or class until the day of the race. No head starts!

I haven't looked to see if we have anything else going on but for right now, I plan on doing this Friday evening, October 10th after Teq concludes. If I see that something else is happening that night, I'll change it. At 8:45 EDT, I will announce the race, class and starting point. You will have 15 minutes to create your character and move through the starting area. Then, at 9:00 pm EDT, I will start the race.

Why a Friday night? Why not? It's a good night when we have lots of people on and for most people, you can relax and have an adult beverage if you wish. And you may need one before you finish this race! lol

That gives you about a week and a half to come up with an empty character slot if you wish to participate.

I will warn you that as soon as you step foot into a higher level area with that level 2 character, your aggro range will get HUGE. In other words, every critter on the map is going to come after you. Expect to die, expect to have to WP, expect to dodge, roll, and yes, as JuJu put it, to even cry.

Why am I being so mean? Well, tis the season! Halloween will be here shortly so it's the time of the year for scary things to happen! Plus I've been hanging out in game with Lisa and I think she's starting to rub off on me.

also no ele f3 please. This gives you a 15% speed boost if I remember right when using a staff and maybe other weapons.

Ele's F3 speed boost only applies if they have the Minor Trait "Zephyr's Speed", and since the F3 skill doesn't unlock until level 13 anyways, it shouldn't be an issue if we're all using new characters.

Looked into a few other similar possibilities. because of the current level-gating it's super unlikely that someone's going to find a class-specific way around these rules, especially if we don't even know the class we'll be playing until the day we run. It's not likely anybody's going to be able to gain the necesary levels to use something like Zephyr's Speed or Shadowstep and still be competitive in the race.

Scoured your rules with a fine-tooth comb Myron... And they look good! This looks like a fun and exciting race, can't wait to see how it plays out!

As much as I'd love to join in on this, I work Fridays, but hopefully it'll be so fun we'll do this again sometime, and I could join in then.

This sounds like a LOT of dying...I mean fun! Count me in - and so happy that it sounds like it could be at a time that i can participate...now if only I can figure out exactly what that time is, cos if it is like five am or something, then i will cheer yous all on in my sleep, but I have a solid week to do my time zone calculations and plenty of time to get a toon slot. Fun Fun

I thought this was great fun. I really did expect it to take much longer and be much harder overall. Sure getting one shotted is hell, but it didn't take long to get there, so my only suggestion might be to make it longer! I would definitely do it again. Thanks for running it Myron - great idea!
