Gonna be lame and choose golden retriever, the fluffy ones, or German Shepherd, or a Shiba inu. Any big dog usually.

I think Plum has 3 dogs... In addition to her Samoyed she also has an Australian Rum Hound named Scott and an American Rednecked Walker named Myron *nods*

I'm just not sure she claims ownership of the last 2...

Ooh lol I will claim ownership of those two and train train train them. Expect to sit, stay, fetch and stare into my eyes for as long as I want before you get to eat!! Also expect to sleep in a crate, spend time in a pen, pee outside on the grass and you might get to snuggle on the couch with me from to time!! Be warned - I expect absolute obedience.

Plum, being an ex vet tech, I would highly recommend against the American Redneck Walker. Although a relatively older breed, it has yet to be recognized by the American Kennel Club or the Australian National Kennel council, or for that matter anywhere! Due to its obnoxious behavior, odd appearance with no consistent traits, inability to be trained and prone to strange fits of yelping, this breed is not recommended as a good “pet”. There are ominous rumors around its origin.

The legend tells the breed was first created in the back alleys of North Korea, when a basset hound slated to be turned into Bosintana (a stew containing boiled dog meat and vegetables), mated with a common street rat. The pregnant Basset was discovered right before going into the pot, and put aside for after she delivered her delicious cargo (puppies were used in Kimchi back then). But when the puppies were born they were so bizarre looking they were deemed uneatable and sold on the black pet market as “mini gorillas” where they ended up as the royal pets for the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Unfortunately during the Russian Revolution of 1917 right before Nicholas II (the last Emperor of Russia) and his family were executed, the puppies were stolen by Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin. Now Rasputin was known for his dabbling in mysticism, and he liked to experiment in strange rituals of mating dogs with toothless deer while chanting and drinking beer. The puppies that came out of this were even weirder than their parents. Rasputin was so horrified by this he sold them to a merchant for the East India Trading Company who thought they might interest the well-known naturalist and explorer Theodore Roosevelt. The merchant booked passage on the RMS Moldavia (which had been purchased by the Admiralty in 1915 and converted into an armed merchant cruiser) hoping to get to America at some point. Sadly, during the trip, the ship was torpedoed and sunk on 23 May 1918 off Beachy Head in the English Channel. One puppy survived clinging to a piece of drift wood pushed by dolphins for 40 days and 40 nights surviving on seaweed and plankton as it floated south, down around South Africa and washing up on the beaches of what we now call the Horn of Africa. The puppy was taken in by Hippos, which raised him as their own. The puppy became very adept at swimming and learned many aggressive behaviors from its adopted family (Hippos are responsible for more human fatalities in Africa than any other large animal). One day, a poacher captured the wild puppy, named him Alberto and tamed him. But the poacher was prone to gabbling and lost the puppy to a game of Go Fish with a traveler who took Alberto to Peru and mated him with a Chihuahua. The puppies from this litter were so weird looking that the traveler killed all but one. This last puppy was sold to a female American tourist, who brought it home to the states. The puppy grew up in Chicago during the height of the roaring 20’s where its owner became a famous flapper girl. Sadly the girl didn’t have the time to take care of the weird looking dog and gave him away to a friendly bouncer at a brothel she often worked at. The bouncer ; Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone adored the little creature and named him Bud. The dog was always close by Al as he helped Johnny Torrio, head of a criminal syndicate illegally supplying alcohol to the greater Chicago area. During this time Bud was bred with a pug and his litter was distributed out amongst Capone’s favorite thugs. When Capone and his gang were captured, Alberto and all his puppies were killed except one. Elliot Ness discovered the puppy at one of the arrests of these thugs (although we do not know which thug it was) and took the dog home. Elliot Ness gave the dog to his adopted son Robert who bred it to a Beagle. The puppies were sold to a pet store and shipped down south to New Orleans. Not much else is known about the history of this breed from 1940 on. There was a sudden reemergence of this breed sometime in the 1980’s where we can assume it had been kept in Cajon country for the last 4 decades. When it did resurface the breed had obviously been modified by voodoo witch doctors who are known to mate dogs with alligators. In an article written about Madonna, where she mentioned her strange little dog she picked up while traveling in the south, the breed was rediscovered. Due to its lack of teeth, extended belly (much like a beer belly) weird Mullet-shaped fur around its head and its strange bark which sounded more like a belch, the dog was nick-named American Redneck by the tabloids. Not much else was heard about this dog till 1985 when members of the band “The Bangles” were photographed with their strange little dog at a concert. The dog obtained much attention during the show due to its agitated and often odd prancing around the stage while the band played the song “Walk like an Egyptian.” The press aptly named the dog American Redneck Walker and the name stuck. When later asked about their strange little pet the band members offered up that he was a gift from Madonna who had bred her dog with an albino Pekinese. During the 1990’s the breed seemed to go back underground. There are reports that president George W. Bush owned one of these dogs but was persuaded by his team to euthanize it before he began his campaign for the white house, in fear of a political backlash. Today, the breed can be found in backyard breeding operation for its known tendency to breed with pretty much anything it sees.
I can tell you from experience the American Redneck Walker has many undesirable genetic traits including shedding, digging, constant yipping, potential for large amounts of drooling, inability to be house trained and tends to always have fleas. You really should rethink this addition to your family….

rofl Strix - perhaps I should rethink it - but then every time I look at it, I feel so sorry for it. What a conundrum. Perhaps I could clip it and dye its fur a nicer colour. ::ponders:: study
