Ankh Pub Crawl

Though it should be clear given the rules, it should be pointed out if Traited speed bonuses are not allowed either. This includes 25% traited passive bonuses and the Thief's 50% stealth bonus.

I did want to clarify a couple of things:

Is the Swiftness buff allowed?
Are rush/dash skills allowed?
Are skills that reduce fall damage allowed?
How will we know and prevent players from shadowstepping, jump-shotting, or otherwise using skills to reach inaccessible areas to gain an advantage?
How can we tell if someone is using a small passive buff that doesn't show a tooltip, like the Mesmer's 10% speed increase when an illusion is active?

And, perhaps most importantly...
It stands logically that if everyone truthfully does not use any form of buffs/speed boosts/etcetc, wouldn't we all just be following the same shortest path nose-to-nose? What strategy exists to break this up other than hoping the other players drop their mouse or something? It seems the single greatest advantage will be being the first person to start walking after Go is called, unless I'm missing a key point here.

I love this idea! We did something like this at the Ankh party and it was really fun!  A whole map would be even better! And the pub crawl part is hilarious!
Can you picture a bunch of ankhies running around dodging baddies, leaping over obstacles... chugging drinks... it sounds awesome!


As for the rules:
It never hurts to get even more detailed about the rules.. but it is just a race and
I would like to hope that ankhies have honor and pride and won't use skills or buffs or anything because that would not be fun or nice.
Also without skills and buffs it makes everyone very equal. Maybe it will be all about who clicks on their mouse fast enough or who drinks fastest but this way it's all even. Everyone can participate, including anyone new to the game who doesn't know all the fancy skills and buffs and all that.  

So.. Thank you Lisa for this event! I am excited to be a part of it!

I am sure the rules need to be fleshed out a bit, but the spirit of the race is pretty clear. Racing based on the default speed given to new characters. Sometimes cheating just can't be stopped, but if that person got caught that would be very bad for them as they would be caught cheating in basically a fun run.

Shana, made a good point about what is to keep everyone from following the same person, kind of like drafting in a bike race (waiting for someone to aggro the Nightmare so the next person can get the lead).

Here are a couple of ideas off the top of my head:
1. There are several groups of racers who all start at different waypoints (since all WPs have to be covered) and individual times are measured
2. There are characters who cannot be identified as being in the guild who can keep an eye on people (secret shopper kind of thing).

I assume there will be judges at each WP to monitor the drinking. They would have to keep a close eye to make sure two drinks were consumed.

I don't know, but I think it is a terrific idea worth spending time to iron out the wrinkles.

7pm eastern time is just as my show starts which means I need to have a special set of songs ready for next Sat. That gives me a full week to come up with some racing & drinking themed songs to play while y'all run around like drunken madmen & women in hopes of winning 1st place. If anyone has some song suggestions, send them to me so I can get the song list ready!!

Shana pointed many valid points as this isn't real life and each individual contestant can't be test for mischief. I suggest we have "officials" who chooses to opt out of the race and monitor the crowd for shenanigans. As much as i would like to see people being "honorable", it ain't gonna happen...a bit blunt but true and I have witness from previous contests. I would like to volunteer as an official if the idea gets implemented. In general, great idea Lisa.!!   

What about a newbie toon run? You make a completely new toon- run with no armor or weapon
Each participant makes a brand new toon in the designated starting area, you can also designate the profession.
At each checkpoint, the judge gives the direction to the next way point ( north , southeast... Etc)

I think that would be ideal but some of us have all of our character slots filled with existing toons

I am sorry I did not explain things so well to everyone.
I wanted an even race which means no speed skills, speed traits, shadowstepping, or anything of the sort. Just everyone nice and even matching wits against each other and the terrain.

There will be guild buffets set up at each wp with guild kegs so we will know if you drank or not.

falling damage seems optional to me as that will neither hinder or speed up anyone giving them and unfair advantage as far as I can tell.

Some of you are worried about following the 1 person but there are many different ways to get from 1 point to the other (no waypointing is not one of them). What I mean is how do you go around trees, or the way you choose to go around the cliff(s) or if you are good enough to dodge the random monster blows.

I did think of everyone creating new characters to start this off but Psy brought up the reason for why not. Not everyone has an empty char slot.

And finally I like to think of everyone as being honest for the most part. At least honest to their nature as quoted by Captain Jack. There will be bartenders at every wp and we will know or soon will be able to tell if someone has an unfair advantage. The prizes may be good but they are not legendary good and hence not worth stabbing any one in the back for.

Hey Lisa, I love it!!! A pub crawl sounds great to me! ::hic:: I think you have an awesome idea and a great way of getting all of us drunk!    Gotta love those Sisters, they know how to through a party!   

From your original post, I can tell this is well thought out and a great idea for all of us Ankhies to have a lot of fun. I really appreciate your effort in creating this event and being willing to go through all of the background work in creating and hosting an event like this; even little events can be a lot of work and this isn't a little one

I say we go for it! Why not? If issues arise, then they can be fixed next time. At some point, I think it is good to just go for it. Have fun, see how the event works (which I think it will), and if all else fails (which I think it will not), it will be a good social guild time.

Sounds like fun! The only kind of drunk I like to get is virtually lol.

Since you switch out traits on the fly now... one could get away with switching in and out a speed boost trait easily without anybody noticing therefore a new character would be the best candidate for doing this or a sub level 30 character...but like psy mentioned not everyone will have an open slot or a sub level 30 char..... Alright enough with a being a deby downer... lets have some have fun.. because yolo.

I would also like to mention that putting a contest together takes a lot of planning, making sure you have thought of everything. Some of you didn't think the rules were clear or had ideas. That is great, in my opinion you should have brought these things to Lisa's attention privately. Tearing her work apart publicly is just wrong!!! Lisa is a good person, she doesn't immediately assume this guild is full of liars and cheats. She put a contest together with rules and expects those rules will be followed. That is as it should be, if we have people in this guild we don't trust they shouldn't be here. This guild is about playing a game, hanging out together, supporting each other and having fun!!

Hunny, I adore you, but I want to chime in on this issue. This reply is my opinion only and does not reflect on anyone as a person. Honestly, I feel uncomfortable rebutting your comment.

I don't think anyone who posted meant to hurt Lisa's feelings and if I did, I couldn't apologize enough, and those who posted comments and suggestions are good guildies who, as far as I know, have always enjoyed and appreciated Lisa's ideas.

I could be wrong, but I didn't read malice or any sense of tearing her work apart. What I read was healthy collaboration among guild leaders and officers and regular guild members.

I looked over my posts, and in my case, you are correct. I did not take the simple time out to thank Lisa for her work on this event.

I want to take another perspective on these discussion posts, and say that I appreciate that people even took the time to chime in with their thoughts. This can be productive, especially since the language of the posts didn't come off as mean spirited and certainly not tearing her apart. It also tells me that the posters found Lisa's idea great as posters took the time to chime in. Finally, in a any organization, people should feel safe to voice their perspective and opinion in a respectful way.

Was there concern about people cheating? Yes; however, this was also in the context of clarifying rules. Two things comes to mind: (a) it would be great to think that no one in the 300+ person guild would cheat, and (b) throwing around ideas about what is allowed and what is not is good because other people will read this discussion and get a better idea of the contest because ideas might have been brought up that other readers could go, "Oh, I never thought of that." I don't think it is good to assume that everyone is on the same page and it is difficult to convey everything on the day of the event.

This is the first time this event has been done in a long time and of course there will be questions. To PM questions, or even concerns, I think is dangerous policy to set, especially in a discussion forum. Posters have been respectful and most have been flat out encouraging (which is awesome and I have doe it myself), but are the discussion boards really just there to shout out encouragements?

If anyone has any questions or even concerns about a post, that they shouldn't be posted publicly in a respectful manner?

I think PMing someone due to hurt feelings, and to maintain good social relationships is a great use of PMs, but open discussion, even with dissenting opinion, should be encouraged.

I thnk it will be good times for all.   I also think the spirt of the rules are very clear. we have run by the honor system for a long time and I see o reason to do other than that,if people want to cheat or take advantage of the honor system then they probly do not belong in ankh.i hope honesty and honor still matter to the majority XD PARTY ON

I think honesty and honor are the de-facto. This guild is full of some great people, and these activities are fun. I can't wait.

I'm sorry Hunny if you think we were tearing apart Lisa's guild event. We are not, we want a equal and fun event for everyone.. I've been at multiple guild events and there is always 1 or 2 bad eggs.. I have witness first hand and it has caught the attention of Strix on occasion. There are regulation associations in the real world for a reason... like the NFL, NBA, MLB...These people come together to discuss and maintain rules and polices or try to at least so that things can be fair for everyone for the most part.
